For the last two weeks, the Tokay High football team has been on the road.
But tonight, the Tigers welcome Downey of Modesto to the Grape Bowl for their home opener. Tokay will play three of its next four games at home.
Last Friday in Stockton, Tokay (1-1) took advantage of big plays that led to a 45-9 non-league win over Bear Creek. Tigers quarterback Daniel Garlick completed 4 of 8 passes for 200 yards, and running back Cory Glasgow rushed nine times for 107 yards.
“We executed offensively early and got out to a fast start,” said Tokay coach Michael Holst. “I thought we played extremely well defensively throughout the contest. We had four takeaways and scored on one of them.
The first 100-yard rushing game for Glasgow, and the play of sophomore outside linebacker Luke Millan stood out in Holst’s mind. Millan had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery against the Bruins.
“Cory was tremendous last Friday,” Holst said. “Luke was all over the field, making effort plays.”
