Tigers will be tested in TCAL opener

A new season begins for the Tokay and Lodi football teams today.

Tokay (2-3) opens Tri-City Athletic League action at the Grape Bowl, but against defending league, Sac-Joaquin Section Division I and NorCal I-AA champion, and State Bowl 1-AA runner-up, St. Mary’s (3-2) at the Grape Bowl. Game time is 7:15 p.m.

In preparing for the Rams, the Tigers have been working on fixing “some of the mistakes we made in the pre-season and ready ourselves for league play” according to Tokay coach Michael Holst.

Another key for the Tigers is their rushing offense in fullback Nathan Branco, and running backs Cory Glasgow, who leads the team in rushing with 500 yards and 5 touchdowns, and sophomore Luke Millan.

“It helps to have a stable of guys who can run the ball,” Holst said. “That also means our offensive line is doing a solid job as well.”
