Howell ready to lead Tigers

Chase Howell has experienced both sides of a rivalry.

The Tokay High football quarterback, now a senior, has his sights on leading this year’s squad. But before the Tigers kick off the season, he experienced building up this year’s team. Two years ago, seeing Howell on Tokay’s campus would be unheard of.

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 172-pounds on the Tigers’ roster on Max Preps’ website, Howell and the Tigers are gearing up for the first game of the season, a non-league contest against Patterson at the Grape Bowl on Friday, Aug. 17. There’s also the Tigers’ remaining non-league, plus wanting to have a say in the Tri-City Athletic League race.

This summer, Howell spent a lot of time passing the ball, getting his timing down to running backs and wide receivers in practices. Tokay competed in nearly a half-dozen non-contact passing camps in the region and South Lake Tahoe.

“Build a chemistry with them,” Howell said. “I think we have high expectations. We feel we have potential. It’s just a matter of putting it together.”
