Fourth quarter onslaught stuns Tigers

While the Tokay football team is in the midst of a four-game losing streak to open its season, there was reason for optimism through three quarters Friday night.

Then came a catastrophic fourth quarter.

Tokay fumbled and allowed a recovery and long run for a touchdown, could not recover a squib kick on the ensuing kickoff and never threatened Chavez again, falling 50-13 at the Grape Bowl.

Chavez outscored Tokay 24-0 in the fourth, nullifying a second quarter surge for the Tigers (the Titans led 18-13 at half) and a close third quarter.

The reeling Tigers (0-4) are allowing 55 points per game, and did not earn a turnover on defense against the Titans (3-1). Chavez, meanwhile, flourished offensively behind senior quarterback Giovanni Gonzalez — who threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more.
