Tigers welcome Chavez back to Grape Bowl

One of two non-league games remain on the Tokay High football team’s schedule.

Chavez is one of those opponents that is making a return trip to the Grape Bowl. Tokay will be playing its third home game in four weeks, as today’s game is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff.

The Tigers have added another quarterback to their roster. Sophomore Jacob Varney (5-foot-11 and 172 pounds) was moved up from the junior varsity team. He took most of the snaps in the Tigers’ 61-14 loss to Stagg on Aug. 30. Varney played for senior quarterback Chase Howell, who sprained his right ankle when Tokay (0-3) fell to Bear Creek 58-16.

“We pulled Varney up due to Chase’s injury,” said Tokay coach Michael Holst. “(Varney) played well for us, but we are hoping Chase will be healthy soon.”
