Tokay quarterback Chase Howell runs the ball, pursued by Bear Creek's Brian Adams during their pre-season game at the Grape Bowl in Lodi Friday, Aug. 24, 2018.
A trick play set up the Tokay High football team’s first touchdown in the second half of Friday’s non-league game against Bear Creek.
But Bruins running back Terry Holmes and his Bear Creek teammates had already done their damage in the first half. Holmes scored early and often that led to Bear Creek posting a 58-16 win over Tokay at the Grape Bowl. Tokay has been outscored 109-28 in its first two games of the season; Patterson posted a 51-12 win over Tokay in the battle of the Tigers at the Grape Bowl on Aug. 17.
Bear Creek led 51-0 at halftime, which led to a running clock for the entire second half. Receiving the second-half kickoff, Tokay (0-2) started at its own 20-yard line. Then six plays later at their own 33, the Tigers, who crossed into the Bruins’ territory only once in the first half, moved the chains when quarterback Chase Howell handed the ball to wide receiver Marcell Norwood on a reverse play.
